Suffolk Downs work ongoing but second half 2025 earliest return
THE impact of the devastating fire which hit Suffolk Downs at the end of July, and which has closed the track since, continues to be felt and it is now expected to be the second half of 2025 at the earliest before any resumption of racing there.
Richard Brankley, head of greyhound operations for SIS, explained: "Clearing up work at Suffolk Downs is under way some several months after a fire tore through the site at the end of July, stopping all greyhound, speedway and stock car activity at the venue.
"The work, including asbestos removal and the demolition of some affected buildings will carry on into the New Year.
"It will be spring at the earliest before any building works are approved and construction begins meaning it will be into the second half of 2025 before any possible return of greyhound racing could be considered."
Of the SIS schedule, Brankley added: "The team at Henlow Racing Ltd have worked to accommodate trainers and staff across other tracks and since the cessation of racing at Suffolk Downs.
"Sister track Towcester has established itself as the busiest circuit in the country staging over 300 races in September, October and November.
"Elsewhere there have been new additions to the SIS Service in Star Pelaw (formerly Pelaw Grange) and Lifford whilst a further meeting from Kilkenny has been added to a Friday evening."
It has been confirmed that Kilkenny will race on Fridays 13th and 20th December.
