Star Sports/TRC Derby attracts 179 entries with 32 Irish-based

MONDAY'S 7pm deadline for entries for the £175,000 Star Sports/TRC English Derby over 500m at Towcester passed with a provisional 179 names in the book, 32 of which are representing Ireland which has won the event for the past three years.

The overall figure was reduced to 178 on Tuesday morning following the withdrawal of the David Mullins-trained Brindle Bully who has been reported lame.

The raiding squad includes Graham Holland's Irish Derby winner Bockos Diamond, Liam Dowling's reigning English Derby champion De Lahdedah plus five from Pat Buckley whose decision to travel had been in doubt.

The first round takes place over three nights on Thursday/Friday/Saturday 8th-10th May with the draw taking place at a special function at Towcester this Friday evening, 2nd May.
