Return of greyhound racing at Suffolk Downs is still planned

MILDENHALL Stadium, which hosted greyhound racing under the name Suffolk Downs until a devastating fire last summer, will rise from the ashes this weekend when staging a stock car meeting on Saturday.
And hopes remain high of a resumption of greyhound racing at some point although much remedial work remains to be undertaken before that can come to fruition.
Director of racing James Chalkley said: "A lot of rebuilding activity has taken place behind the scenes as the site recovers from the devastating fire that tore through it a little over eight months ago.

"The restoration of power and customer facilities has enabled the return of speedway for the Mildenhall Fen Tigers in the 2025 season and the hosting of several stock car events."
Chalkley added: “We've been encouraged with the works carried out and the commitment of the owner to continue operating the site.
"On the greyhound front, there is still a long list to do to ensure that the racing kennels and track operation can be returned to GBGB standards.
"However, the revival of motorsport at the track has given confidence that a return of greyhound racing will be possible in late 2025 or early 2026.
"Having initially reopened as Suffolk Downs in 2022, as well as reviving Oxford, we are determined that the sport should not lose another track.
"We will endeavour to give regular updates on progress to share with the many interested parties who like us are eager to see racing return."
