Pennys Cailin sets fine standard in Mullingar's Irish Cesarewitch

PENNYS CAILIN became just the tenth greyhound to dip under 33 seconds for Mullingar's 600 yards course with a brilliant victory in the second Time Irish Cesarewitch Open eliminator on Sunday.

Rosemary Price's bitch was sent off 7/1 for her first race since December but took early control and pulled right away to beat odds-on Superfast Gorden by seven lengths in 32.98sec.

The runner-up's trainer, Pat Buckley, went one better when defending champion Singalong Dolly, who had set a track record of 32.74sec in last year's decider, took the finale in 33.59sc.

Other winners were Tommy O'Donovan's Radical Scoby (33.57sec) and Tim Cliffe's Timmys Bucks (32.70sec) with Phoenix Memphis and Superfast Gorden qualifying for next weekend's €10,000 final as fastest seconds.
