Pavilion Fire back to best in Fair Warrior second round
Trainer Aidan McVeigh and Pavilion Fire after the reigning champion's standard-setting victory

REIGNING champion Pavilion Fire was just five spots outside the new track record as he produced a superb performance in round two of the Droopys Stud Fair Warrior Open 400 at Mullingar.

Trained by Aidan McVeigh for Richard Irwin, Pavilion Fire was landing just his second victory since last year’s triumph when turning the finale into a procession, scoring by seven lengths from Scarborough Fair in 21.08sec.

Next quickest was Jennifer O’Donnell’s Born Racer who took advantage of the absence of last week’s record breaker Glendale Zozo to take heat three in 21.13sec.

Other heats went to Pat Buckley’s Road Exile (21.24sec) and John Atkinson’s Leahs Best (21.34sec).

Draw for Sunday's semis - first: 1 Casemiro, 2 Born Racer, 3 Killeshil Magic (m), 4 Road Exile (m), 5 Jetara (w), 6 Killeshil Ranger (w).

Second: 1 Scarborough Fair, 2 Leahs Best (m), 3 Pavilion Fire (m), 4 Zippy Canning (m), 5 Satellite Munroe (w), 6 Manalishi Jet (w).
