*Update: March On Freddie is now due to trial at Shelbourne Park on Saturday 5th October having missed his Hove engagement due to traffic issues.

MARCH ON FREDDIE is 16-1 with the sponsor for the BoyleSports Irish Derby following the exciting revelation that the brilliant Nottingham Puppy Classic winner is being aimed at Shelbourne Park.

David Mullins' star, a litter-brother of Irish phenom Bockos Diamond, was fully 29 spots inside Droopys Clue's 491m Central Park track record when clocking 28.54sec in a solo trial last weekend and it had been presumed he was Kent Derby-bound over the course and distance.

However, he then appeared in the entries for a minor competition starting at Hove on Thursday, qualification for the final of which would have ruled him out of the Central Park Category One.

Writing in the Talking Dogs section of the Greyhound Racing Ireland website, Ian Fortune said: "There will be an English challenge for this year’s Boylesports Irish Derby with the wonderful news that the hugely talented March On Freddie is set to take his chance in the upcoming classic.

"His owner George Watson confirmed the news yesterday evening, although one suspects he and the dog’s trainer Dave Mullins have been hatching the plan for a couple of weeks.

MARCH ON FREDDIE SET FOR DERBY CHALLENGE

"He recently ran away with the JenningsBet Puppy Classic at Nottingham and is now clear favourite for next year’s English Derby. Remarkably, his litter brother Bockos Diamond is joint favourite with sponsors BoyleSports for the Irish equivalent.

"Said Watson of the decision to come to Shelbourne Park with their star, 'He’s dipping inside track records wherever he goes. If you don’t travel with a dog like him, you would never go with anything.”
