Big crowd shows to support greyhound racing at Valley
Joe Tams presents the trophy to trainer Donna Davy after Rollerball won the Saturday feature

VALLEY attracted its biggest crowd since switching to GBGB rules for Saturday's special St David's Day meeting as the local community showed its support for greyhound racing in Wales.

The sport is under threat after the Labour government in Wales announced an intention to ban it although no timescale for any legislation has been forthcoming and there is already speculation that time could be tight to get anything through in the life of the current Senedd session.

The Donna Davy-trained Rollerball, who had some excellent recent form in sprint opens at the track, dominated throughout as she landed odds of 2/7 in the feature event on the card, winning the DragonBet St David's Day Cup over 460m by almost two lengths in 28.27sec.

It is understood that legal advice has been sought on the possibility of challenging any ban but as such a move by the Welsh government remains an intention for now rather than reality the battle for local support is seen as even more important.
